Really great chips and salsa. We all got tacos and liked them. The favorites were the veg squash and the barbacoa. Rice and beans were okay.

Had lunch poolside at the Primer Cantina. Chicken quesadillas was excellent and the price was not bad for being at a resort.

Atmosphere incredible. Food very good, but not excellent. Tried four different tacos...the meat versions all tasted alike. The potato version was (surprisingly) the tastiest! Margarita was pretty good, but I've had better. Also was served in a plastic beer cup. Tacky. Staff was very attentive. Outdoor music for a private event was much too loud. Band was fine, but when they stopped, other music was deafening. I'd go again if just for the setting!!

This review is for the chips and salsa. Let me tell you straight up that they have some of the best chips and salsa in San Antonio! Easily! I couldn't recommend them more. If a rep for the resort or Cantina, please never change the supplier or way you make them. Send me a message if you do so I have a chance to set you straight. Beyond the obviously wonderful chips and salsa, the happy hour margaritas are a steal for $6!

I recently stayed at La Cantera with friends. I had no plans to eat at Primero Cantina based upon some of the reviews. That would have been a mistake. Though we only had appetizers, they were good. The Tropical Fish Ceviche was delicious, as were the chips/salsa, queso and guacamole. My sister ordered Sangria, which had to be made. She said it was delicious. The service by Giselle was good, we sat outside near the pool.

Welcome to Primero Cantina, a hidden gem nestled in the heart of San Antonio’s La Cantera Resort, located at 16641 La Cantera Pkwy. If you’re seeking vibrant and satisfying Mexican cuisine, look no further. With a reputation for exceptional chips and salsa, this cantina truly captures the essence of dining delightfully.

The ambiance here is captivating, with an inviting outdoor seating arrangement that makes it perfect for a meal under the sun or a festive evening by the pool. There’s a special charm to dining al fresco, enhanced by the pleasant sounds of music that occasionally waft through the air. While some have found the noise levels from private events a bit overwhelming, many agree that the setting is worth repeating.

Let’s talk about the food, which is the star of the show. Customers rave about the chips and salsa, hailed as some of the finest in the city. It's clear that the recipe strikes a chord with both locals and visitors alike. One guest, Michael Barton, passionately insists on keeping their supplier as is, reflecting the praise they receive. The tortilla chips are perfectly crispy, serving as an ideal vessel for the rich, flavorful salsa that accompanies them.

Tacos are a centerpiece of the menu, with a variety that caters to different palates. Reviewers like Gwen Gwen spotlighted the barbacoa and veg squash tacos as standouts, though some suggest that the meat versions could benefit from distinct flavors. The $6 happy hour margaritas also draw attention, providing an excellent value proposition for those looking to unwind.

For those not in the mood for tacos, the chicken quesadillas and Tropical Fish Ceviche have also garnered positive feedback. The quesadillas, especially, provide a savory option that's perfect for lunch by the pool, according to customer Brian Waskiewicz.

While the atmosphere and certain dishes are celebrated, it’s important to note some room for improvement, particularly in the drink presentation, as pointed out by Veronika Benson. Despite these minor critiques, many guests are willing to give Primero Cantina another shot purely for the dining experience and the friendly staff, who strive to provide attentive service.

In conclusion, Primero Cantina stands out in the culinary landscape of San Antonio, creating a memorable fusion of culture, flavor, and ambiance. Whether you’re munching on those addictive chips with salsa or enjoying a refreshing margarita, each bite feels like a celebration. Be sure to visit and discover why this cantina is a popular choice for both leisure and celebrations!
